Fellowship Opportunities

Holy Cross is comprised of members and friends with a wide range of age and life experiences. We are a welcoming family that embraces each other and our understanding that we are brothers and sisters in Christ. Our love for each other, the community, and the world resonates in the worship, ministry, and outreach of this congregation. Here are some ways you can learn, serve, and grow at this Holy Cross. For contact information for activity leaders, please send an email to the church office through the “Contact Us” tab.

Bible and Book Studies

Holy Cross offers multiple opportunities for study and discussion.

Quilt Group

Holy Cross Quilters meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 9:30 a.m. and again at 1:00 p.m. Their quilts are distributed to local groups such as the Children’s Cabinet, VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System, Hosanna Home, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Renown Medical Center, Children in Transition in the Washoe County School District, the Ronald McDonald House, and Leah’s Home. The quilts are distributed internationally through Lutheran World Relief. In 2017, the quilters made 132 full-size quilts and 56 smaller neonatal quilts. Twice a year in worship the quilts are displayed and blessed before they are distributed as a sign of God’s love for a broken world.

Close Knit Friends

The Close Knit Friends group makes and donates afghans and other items to people in need in our community as well as small afghans for infants baptized at Holy Cross. If you are a beginning knitter they are happy to teach and help you!

Garden of Eatin’ – Holy Cross Community Garden

The Holy Cross Community Garden was developed to celebrate God’s creation and bounty through the planting of vegetables, herbs and flowers that can be shared and enjoyed by HCLC members and friends, Silver Sage residents, homeless shelters and local food banks. There are 24 raised garden boxes available for members and community neighbors to plant, harvest, and share produce. The garden is completely natural utilizing organic seeds and plants that have not been exposed to harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and that will not negatively impact the local environment, watershed and wildlife. Our garden is flourishing!!

Senior Lunch & Other Meals

Older adults from Holy Cross get together for lunch in the fellowship hall. It is a time for friendship and just enjoying each other’s company. From time-to-time, other groups gather for a meal with invitations shared through newsletter and worship bulletin announcements.
